元宵。 Last day of Lunar New Year!

As you all know, Singapore’s DORSCON yellow have turned Orange as of 07 Feb 2020. 😣 And I heard, everyone was in the panic mode, stocking up food (esp can food, maggie mee, rice etc) and even toiletries (esp toilet paper rolls, hand wash and tissue papers are sold out everywhere). All I saw was post and post of Singaporean’s kiasu-ness online. But since I went to Don Don Donki to buy some meat for steamboat gathering on Saturday, I didn’t get to see the exaggerating reaction from fellow Singaporeans. That was Friday.

So it was Saturday yesterday, and I still need to buy some food (fresh food items, and lucky these cannot keep for long. Otherwise I dont think I stand a chance to buy since I only head to the supermarket at 3plus in the afternoon) for the steamboat. The queue for payment was extremely long. What was disheartening to see is, seeing baskets and baskets of food (which includes food item from the freezer, fridge) lying around on the floor. I wanna buy a small can of luncheon meat also don’t have. WHY ARE YOU PEOPLE DEPRIVING PEOPLE LIKE ME FROM GETTING FOOD? I don’t store food at home, just so you know.

Baskets lying around, Rice section only left brown rice. And some more premium rice.

I mean, you guys are adults. Have some common sense please? There is no need to stock up food because life still goes on during DORSCON Orange. It doesn’t mean it’s the end of the world. It doesn’t mean you cannot go out. It doesn’t mean hawkers, wet markets, supermarkets, shopping malls are closed during this period of time. And, WHY do you wanna create more work for those working in supermarket? It’s not an easy job since everyone is rushing to stock up food at home, and they have to keep restocking items on the shelves for you selfish and kiasi idiots, and now they have to walk around and put back all those stuffs that YOU IRRESPONSIBLE PEOPLE left behind in basket or trolley. You all seriously buay paiseh one meh?

Do you think that 2019-nCoV only affects you? ANYONE could have gotten it. ANYONE. If you have been reading news, you should know that there are cases whereby people are tested positive with 2019-nCoV even without going China or have any close contacts with those affected. So stop acting like it only affect you. Please don’t create unnecessary panic amongst us. Please don’t do stupid things like this. You know 2019-nCoV can be cured. I just don’t know if stupidity can. Even if you don’t die from 2019-nCoV, maybe you will die from eating too much unhealthy can food. 😑

Just want to remind everyone, you just need to have good hygiene practice. Wash hands with soap, reduce unnecessary hand shake, dont go touching your face, eyes and nose after touching something, take note of your personal temperature and don’t report to work if you are unwell. Wear a mask if you are unwell (if you are at home, no need to wear mask you know right? Just isolate yourself, don’t waste mask) and there is a need to go out; to see a doctor. Everyone has a part to do. Right? Protect others = Protect yourself.

Enough of the 2019-nCoV. Lucky for me, I was able to buy some prawns (to make prawn paste). But I realized, it’s more expensive now. Considering the current food situation. I bought 10 tiger prawns (around 400g) for SGD$11 on Tuesday, the same prawn I bought on Saturday cost me SGD$13 for 8 tiger prawns (around 380g). 😣

This is how my final product looks like. Around 380g of tiger prawns.
Added ingredients: salt, pepper, sesame oil, and Tobiko
(this time I have forgotten about adding corn flour😆)
I gotten my partial recipe from this youtube video. In the video, they also added egg white, shao xing wine and ginger juice (which I can’t find). So I only add the basics. It still taste very nice lah. 😊

And I am glad we managed to pull a feast for our 元宵 party last night. And I am excited because my friend gave me some black, blue and wine red shrimps as well as some crayfishes. 😊 It’s really nice to have friends who happened to have same hobby!

My 2nd family and my ‘Laogong’s’ friend, Melvin and Daphne.
Thanks for coming over and help me fix my gundam! And giving me shrimps and crayfish! 😘
And pardon for my ugly look, because who wears makeup at home? 😅

The shrimps in my main tank seems to be striving pretty well, and we see quite a bit of baby shrimps coming out for food. And each time I watch them, my heart was pumping very fast because the fishes are always so close to them.

And now that my Pearlscale goldfish, Baluku, seems to have swim bladder problem, we started giving it salt water treatment and hopefully it will get better. The last pearly I had, died from it. 😭 And just now I checked, he’s gotten red tummy. And I think probably because the tummy is sticking outside water. I hope he get well soon. Cause, I really love him.

It’s Goldfish day!

It’s weekly water change for our goldfish tank! And this time, I managed to record a hyper lapse video. And as always, I love to caress my fishes. 😛 It took us about an hour to do water change because we have to scrub the rocks, the glass and use sponge to clear away the algae that are starting to grow. There are also some floating plants in the tank because our goldfishes loves to bite the plants as though they are still very hungry. And on the side of my main tank, we have a small tank where we kept shrimps. And currently, we have a baby fish living in that tank. The baby fish hatched from nowhere, but we suspect it was from one of the plants that we shifted from main tank to the small tank.

The baby fish that we found. And I thought it was some kind of mosquito larva because it was first time seeing this ‘thing’ in the tank. Initially, we found 3. But only 1 of them survived. 😥
Not sure if you are able to see the baby fish swimming in the tank. It was so small and I thought it was struggling to survive.
My cherry shrimps
We tried rearing some crystal shrimps. But sadly, they didn’t survive in our tank.
Looking on the bright side, my shrimp tank community is growing. With all the adorable baby shrimps. It was so hard to notice them initially because they looked like tiny little dots and I was trying very hard to locate them. And I have some snails in the tank appearing from nowhere since we didn’t purchase any. Conclusion was, it came with some of the plants that we bought for the shrimp tank. And those plants, we didn’t soak in tap water overnight, soaking for a couple of hours each time. So now we know, must soak plants overnight. If not, I think I am also building a snail community in the shrimp tank.

Maybe next time, I can share about my goldfish rearing journey. And I am glad that Laogong is with me on this journey. 🙂
